Rise and Shine: My morning routine
Crawling out your comfy bed isn’t the easiest thing to do, I used to be terrible, I think it got to the point in my teenage years where I wouldn’t even see the morning and instead get up midday and call lunch, my breakfast, just to feel better about myself. But since having my own home and having responsibilities I actually like getting up in the morning, I feel more productive and get things done a lot earlier instead of leaving everything last minute and having that ‘cant be bothered attitude’. Surprisingly, when I used to get up at midday, I would be more tired throughout the day which was so weird, but now that I get up early, I feel much more positive about my day and I feel more fresh and healthy.
So whether you’re a morning person or not, I thought my morning routine would give you some ideas on how to make mornings brighter and easier to tackle. I know not everyone’s schedule is the same but I’ve made this into a timeline to show you how I do it.
7:00 a.m – Rise and Shine.
My alarm clock is my puppy, I’ll wake up to Archie whining in his crate wanting to go for a wee outside, so this is the first thing I do. I then make his breakfast and fill up a fresh bowl of water for him.
7:15 a.m – Make the bed.
I will head back upstairs to make my bed – if you make your bed as soon as you wake up it makes it harder to get back in the covers. I open my blinds and just tidy up the bedroom.
7:30 a.m – Wash.
After getting my room all nice and neat again, I will get in the shower. Doing this wakes me up so much, I use the natural source mint & tee tree shower gel and it smells sooooooo good. I’ll also make sure I wash my face and then dry off.
8:00 a.m – Check my phone & get ready!
I tend to spend a little while in the shower, but when I’m out, I like to check my phone for any notifications and have a general browse on social media too see whats trending, when I’m up to date, I will then get ready for the day, If I’m in the mood I’ll put my face on but I would say most of the time I will go make-up free, especially if I’m going to be indoors most of the day. When I’ve just got out the shower, I don’t really like putting make up on a fresh face anyway! So then I’ll get dressed and check on my little puppy.
8:30 a.m – Go for a walk.
Nothing wakes me up more than walking my dog first thing in the morning, in the fresh, crisp air, that and trying to pull Archie back from pulling too much! I must admit that I don’t exercise as much as I should do, but I feel like going for a walk or a run in the morning puts you in a good mood for the rest of the day, personally I feel a lot more energetic when I get back in, I’m definitely more productive.
9:15 a.m – Make breakfast.
“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” I love having a bowl of porridge and fresh fruit in the morning, if i’m feeling not so healthy, I’ll make a bowl of co-co pops mmm. I want clear, glowing and acne free skin so I make sure that I drink plenty of water throughout the day, but with my breakfast I do have a cup of tea, extra milky.
9:45 a.m – Clean up!
I think it’s very important to stay organised and this means doing some necessary house chores and a general tidy up, this gives me peace of mind that the house is tidy and then I can start writing up or plan a new post for my blog in a clut-free, clean and tidy environment.
I get that my morning routine is a little boring, and I know that everyone’s mornings are going to be different but I find it so useful reading things like this and getting some extra tips to not put my alarm on snooze for the tenth time or a reminder that I should be drinking more water in the day and to eat some breakfast.
